3.4 Conduct and Sanctions
3.4.1 Honor Code
All players, coaches, referees, club officials and administrators registered with MYSA, and MYSA officials and administrators, shall report any breach of US Youth Soccer or MYSA rules to MYSA for investigation and disposition. The failure to report a known rule violation is the equivalent to committing the violation. Violators are expected to voluntarily resign.
3.4.2 Prohibited Behaviors
a. During a soccer season, a player, coach, referee, club official or administrator, MYSA official or administrator, or spectator, shall not engage in racial, religious, or sexual harassment or violence.
b. Before, during, or after an MYSA sponsored or sanctioned activity, a player, coach, referee, club official or administrator,
MYSA official or administrator, or spectator, shall not:
1. engage in violent behavior.
2. engage in taunting or showboating.
3. vandalize public or private property.
4. use inappropriate language.
c. During a soccer season, regardless of quantity, a player shall not:
1. use a beverage containing alcohol; or
2. use or consume, have in possession, buy, sell, or give away any other controlled substance.
d. An individual attending an MYSA sponsored or sanctioned game shall not:
1. use or consume, buy, sell or give away: any beverage containing alcohol; tobacco in any form; or any other controlled substance while present at the playing venue. This rule does not apply to properly prescribed medication.
2. wager or gamble on its outcome.
e. An individual shall not harass an MYSA or club official, referee, coach or player.
3.4.3 Sanctions
a. Violations of MYSA rules may result in the imposition of sanctions as determined and set forth by MYSA from time to time. Sanctions may include but are not limited to: verbal or written warning; game(s) suspension; partial or full season suspension; suspension for a defined period of time; temporary or permanent banishment; and fines.
b. Players, coaches, and spectators are cautioned that sanctions imposed for violations of Section 3.4.2 Prohibited Behaviors are in addition to any discipline which may be imposed by a match official during a MYSA sanctioned game.
US Youth Soccer Code of Conduct
Section 112. Bullying
US Youth Soccer prohibits representatives, members and participants from engaging in any unwanted, aggressive behavior designed to intimidate or harm another through one’s superior physical strength, access to embarrassing information, popularity or influence.
Section 113. Harassment
(a) US Youth Soccer prohibits representatives, members and participants from engaging in any activity designed to cause fear or humiliation, reflect discriminatory bias, offend or degrade through physical or non-physical actions towards any other representatives, members or participants at any sanctioned program, event, activity or competition.
Section 114. Hazing
(a) US Youth Soccer prohibits representatives, members and participants from engaging in any activity that could be defined as hazing at any sanctioned program, event, activity or competition.
Players are expected to sign this code of conduct prior to the start of every season. By signing this code of conduct, players understand and agree to follow the rules set forth by MYSA in Section 3.4 Conduct and Sanctions of the MYSA Rules Manual and Sections 112 – 114 in the US Youth Soccer Code of Conduct. Players also understand that if they violate this code of conduct, they are subject to the consequences as described in 3.4.3.a. Sanctions.
Player Expectations
- Be a good teammate, treat others well, encourage and celebrate the success of other players individually and the team as a whole.
- Work hard in practice and games.
- Be coachable (give effort to applying the feedback you receive from coaches).
- Be present. Attend games and practices and while there be focused on getting better and giving your best effort.
- Communicate with coaches and teammates.
- Be prepared to play and properly equipped.
- Be on time.
Parent/Guardian Expectations
Parents/Guardians are responsible for supporting their athletes, the team, and officials coaches throughout the season. Parents/Guardians are responsible for ensuring an open and positive line of communication exists with coaches and team managers. Parents/Guardians are expected to teach and model good sportsmanship. Unsporting behavior will not be tolerated.
- Be supportive of their player, the team as a whole, coaches and officials by being positive on the sidelines at all times.
- Communicate player availability and absences as far in advance as possible.
- Discuss any concerns about playing time, positions, or team dynamics with the coach directly.
- Be supportive of your players' experience and positive in your attitude toward the team, coach, officials, and opponents. Athletes often mirror the attitudes they see at home.
- Ensure your player is properly equipped, on time, and ready to participate.
